📖 Ruth

“A beautiful story of faith, kindness, redemption, and God’s providence.”

Introduction

The Book of Ruth is a short but powerful story that takes place during the time of the Judges. It follows Ruth, a Moabite widow, who chooses to remain with her mother-in-law Naomi and place her trust in the God of Israel.

Through ordinary acts of faithfulness, kindness, and love, God works quietly to bring hope out of sorrow. Ruth eventually becomes the great-grandmother of King David and is included in the genealogy of Jesus Christ.

Although Ruth is only four chapters long, it beautifully demonstrates God’s providence, redemption, and faithful love.

Author

The author of Ruth is not identified in the Bible.

Jewish tradition has sometimes attributed the book to the prophet Samuel, but the Bible does not name its author. Regardless of who wrote it, the book preserves an important part of Israel’s history and God’s unfolding plan of redemption.

Historical Background

The events of Ruth take place during the period of the Judges, a time when Israel often turned away from God and experienced spiritual instability.

Against this difficult background, Ruth tells a quiet story of faithfulness, showing that God was still working through ordinary people to accomplish His purposes.
